New GitHub Repo: A Dockerized UDP Broadcast Relay for Multi-VLAN Networks
Why I Built This
If you’ve segmented your home network into VLANs—IoT, Media, Guest, and so on—you’ve probably run into this: UDP broadcast discovery doesn’t traverse VLAN boundaries by default. Devices like an HDHomerun tuner or a Roku sit on one VLAN, and the client trying to discover them (Plex, Emby, whatever) sits on another, and they simply can’t find each other.
Most network controllers (UDM Pro, UniFi Dream Router, etc.) already handle mDNS repeating for things like Chromecast, AirPlay, and HomeKit. But plenty of discovery protocols aren’t mDNS—HDHomerun, Roku’s SSDP, TP-Link Kasa—and those still need something relaying the raw UDP broadcast across interfaces.
New GitHub Repo: A Self-Updating Docker Image for Minecraft Bedrock Servers
TL;DR: A self-updating Docker image for a Minecraft Bedrock dedicated server—drop a .mcworld file in a mods folder and it’s live on boot.
Why I Built This
One of my kids loves Minecraft and, like every kid with a favorite streamer, wants whatever custom world or mod they just saw played—for about thirty minutes, until the next video changes their mind. They play on console, not PC, so anything beyond vanilla needs a server hosting it for them.
New GitHub Repo: PowerShell Scripts for Domain WHOIS & Management
I’ve just published a new GitHub repository that I’m pretty excited about. It contains a handful of PowerShell scripts for working with domains—with a focus on WHOIS lookups.
Why I Built This
Looking up a single WHOIS record is easy enough. You can hop over to sites like MXToolbox or GoDaddy and get quick results.
But when you’re dealing with multiple domains—sometimes dozens, sometimes hundreds—manual lookups become painful fast. That’s especially true if you want to:
